G&L BASS NECK: 1981 L-2000E bass neck in good overall condition with some playing wear but no major issues. It is stamped July 20, 1981 on the heel, along with the number 3. Some may suggest that the "1981" resembles a "1991", but the headstock and other details are consistent with original early G&L styling, and the matching bridge serial number is certainly from the early 1980's.

I've owned this neck for about 10 years and it has been stable and trouble-free. It's a nice bright maple neck with a great look and a good playing feel. The tuners and truss rod work properly, and the finish has darkened nicely over the decades. There is some finsh checking (which was there when I got the neck, and has not worsened), mostly on the back of the headstock, as well as on the front around the G and D tuners. Nut width is 1 11/16", 12th fret is about 2 1/4" and 21st fret high E!

The neck shape feels wide and flat, and is about 3/4" front-to-back at the lower frets, thickening to around 7/8" at the higher end. Frets are in good shape with slight divots in the lower positions, but still very playable. They are typical bass frets - wide, low and relatively flat. The nut is cut fairly low, so depending on how you like your setup you may wish to replace or shim it.

I had the neck adjusted very straight and with a light touch it played cleanly across the entire fretboard. There are some wear spots (which were on the neck when I got it)through the finish under the E and A strings at the third and fifth frets, and under the A string at seventh fret. I did not find them noticable when playing, and with strings on they are not particularly apparent. No neck plate or mounting screws included, only the neck as pictured.
